Addiction is a complex struggle. It’s easy to criticize someone facing addiction when we don’t understand their pain. But let’s take a moment to reflect on our own lives. While you might not struggle with substance abuse, you can still have your own vices that dictate your choices.
You may think, “I’m not an alcoholic or a drug user.” But this doesn’t mean you’re free from addiction. What outlets do you turn to when pain strikes? Is it the rush from scrolling through social media? Do you dive into food or work, using them as distractions? Maybe you gossip or engage in emotional manipulation.
Addiction comes in many forms—more than just drugs or alcohol. It’s a chronic condition that affects our mental health, relationships, and careers. We must remember that while someone else’s struggles may differ from ours, it doesn’t make their battles any less valid.
Judging others can be dangerously easy. We all have our own skeletons hidden away, and it’s crucial to approach others with empathy. Just because someone doesn’t face the same challenges we do doesn’t mean they haven’t experienced their own pain. Let’s choose understanding over judgment.
